Abstract

In recent years it has become increasingly clear that many students who desired to matriculate into Engineering Technology programs at Youngstown State University (YSU) lacked the necessary mathematics and problem solving skills. The focus of this
innovation was to establish a framework that would increase the retention of inadequately prepared students. As a result, attention was concentrated in trying to reach these students prior to entry into one of our technical or engineering programs. This paper begins with a brief description of the courses involved and outlines the procedure taken to establish a viable framework.
